College Student Needs Beer Money, Gives To Charity

A college football fan who recently held up a sign on national TV asking for beer money has ended up raising a lot of money for a good cause. During ESPN’s broadcast of “College GameDay” on Saturday, Iowa State fan Carson King could be seen in the background holding up a sign that said “Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished” along with his Venmo account details. King says that less than 30 minutes after his sign appeared on TV, he looked at his phone and more than $400 had already been put into his account. He says after the donations got above $600, he thought “there are better things I can do with this” and decided to donate the money to a good cause. King decided that, after covering the cost of a case of Busch Light, he’d donate the rest of the money to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. And his kind gesture soon got the attention of Busch Beer and Venmo, who each pledged to match the donation to the hospital. The amount King has received in his Venmo account has already surpassed $40,000, meaning that more than $120,000 had been raised for the hospital.
