No Fans At Vikings Training Camp For First Time
Written by Tony Schultz on July 11, 2020
It comes really as no surprise that another large group gathering has been altered. Every year around the NFL fans go to their favorite team’s training camp to get an extra glimpse of their favorite players. Maybe they get lucky enough to get a one-on-one meet and greet or a special picture or autograph. A few years ago when I was at the camp in Mankato fan favorite and retired TE/FB Jim Kleinsasser was just walking around amongst the crowd like any other fan. He was more than happy to take pictures with anyone who recognized him, especially kids. Those are the memories kids and parents tell for years. Even though the team has moved to TCO Performance Center in Eagan and seems a little more corporate the organization has tons of family friendly events, autograph signings and practices with fun highlights of their own. For some families this is one of their biggest vacation of the year. To connect with their team in a way they can’t by watching the game on television or even sitting in the stands. So the fact that the Vikings are having a “fan free” camp this year is not really surprising considering the potential spread of Covid-19, but that doesn’t make it hurt any less to those that love the Purple and Gold and want to make a few memories while they can.
