Disinfecting your Hotel Room: 101
Written by admin on July 28, 2020
COVID has certainly given us a reason to be hyper sensitive about germs. Truth is when you visit a hotel room, you should always be thinking about disinfecting, COVID or not.
First of all, yes the staff has most likely already done some cleaning in your room. Awesome, but let’s do it again for fun and…just to be super sure! Especially disinfecting those highly germy items and areas. Whether you’re staying at a 5 star resort, or a low budget motel, it’s a good idea to be extra safe! I found a couple of articles with some tips, and threw in some tips of my own!
1- TV Remote: Clean with a Clorox wipe (huge germ collector)
2-Light Switches & Door Handles: Anything you touch as you enter the room should be wiped down with Clorox wipes. Use a new wipe on each surface to avoid spreading any germs around. Door handles and locks, light switches, bedside tables, alarm clocks, phones, the coffee pot and mini fridge. Then toss the wipes and wash your hands in the newly disinfected bathroom sink.
3- The Bathroom: Wipe the toilet flush handle, the sink and shower faucet handles and anything else you might touch with disinfectant wipes (same rules apply as in #2). Consider spraying the toilet seat and bathroom sink area with a disinfectant such as Lysol. Treat that shower like the gross boys’ locker room at your kid’s high school. Consider wearing flip flops or shower shoes, especially if you have a cut on your foot. And if there’s a tub, forego the idea of baths.
4- The Carpet: No, you’re not bringing your carpet cleaner. Bring a pair of slippers to wear or at the very least, be sure you’re wearing socks.
5- The Bedding: Some go as far as bringing their own pillow cases, sheets, and blankets when they stay at a hotel. And honestly, that’s not a bad idea. The bead spreads very rarely get washed, so that’s icky. Do whatever makes you feel safe, but it’s certainly not a bad idea.
6- Dirty Clothes Bag: Always bring a trash bag, or separate bag, along to keep your dirty laundry in. The dirties won’t mix in with your clean clothes in your suit case, and when you get home you can throw it right in the washer.
Hopefully these will put your mind at ease and help to keep you and your family safe! Enjoy your next hotel stay!
