Ellen Pompeo – Aging on Grey’s Anatomy, Not Easy
Written by Brittany Styles on August 25, 2020
We all age. That’s a fact. But can you imagine watching yourself age on TV for 15 years? Same clothes, but you’re getting older! That’s what Ellen Pompeo said on the latest episode of Dax Shephard’s Armchair Expert podcast. Ellen has played Dr. Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy since 2005! During the podcast, Ellen also recalled feeling like she had to prove that she was “good” on Grey’s Anatomy without Patrick Dempsey.
People Magazine reports that Pompeo said, “When Patrick left, I had something to prove. He left season 11 and then I was renegotiating season 12, so I could have left, because the man left, which is not the story I want to tell. They had put that in my head for so long, that I was no good without him. I had to rewrite the ending of that story and say, well, ‘Who’s right? Am I actually good without him?’ I had to take over that script and rewrite that story and prove to myself that they were wrong in all the things they put into my head over all of those years.”
Pompeo admitted that watching herself age from 33 to 50 on-screen is “not so fun.” She said, “You really see it because I’m in the same clothes [playing] the same character. So the way I see myself aging, that’s a motherf—–“. LOl! Tell us how you really feel, Ellen! We love her and think she looks fantastic. But it definitely makes sense!
The next season of Grey’s Anatomy will tackle the lovely Coronavirus, of course! But there is no premiere date yet, like a lot of other shows. We’ll be waiting…
