Augusta County Regiment

Bauer’s Market and Garden center bring Us the Pledge shout-out for November 3rd. Today We salute the establishment of the Augusta County Regiment in 1741. They fought under George Washington in the French and Indian War and in the Revolutionary War. They also mustered under General Stonewall Jackson in the Civil War,( Yes, the Army of Northern Virginia). They became part of the Union Army and became the 116th infantry, folding into the 29th infantry in World War I. The 29th led the charge at Omaha Beach on D-Day in World War II. The unit is still in existence primarily as perimeter guards at Guantanamo Bay. France, Germany, much of Europe and especially America have free elections today thanks in Part to the Augusta County Virginia Regiment, established today way back in 1741.
