Sergeant Schelley

Today We Salute the Late Gunnery Sergeant Matt Schellschmidt of Caledonia. Matt passed away last week at the age of 59. Matt joined the United States Marines after His high school graduation. he served from June 28th, 1979 to June 30th, 1999. He was a decorated Marine and astute boxer, even coaching the Marine boxing team. After leaving active duty Sergeant Schelley returned to Caledonia, but never stopped being a Marine. I got to know Matt when He revitalized The Caledonia Boxing Club in the Early 2000’s. In 2002 The Caledonia City Auditorium hosted the St. Paddy’s Day boxing event, in front of a crowd of 1600 people. Matt was a Nurse, Patriot, a Mentor and Always a Marine. One last time Gunney……….” Semper Fi”!!!!
