If you’re planning a trip to Nashville, you have another historical site to add to your itinerary! The National Museum of African American Music in Nashville pays homage to the history of African American music, and particularly the artists. The idea started nearly 20 years ago, and they finally had their grand opening over the weekend.
According to the museum’s website, “in 2002, members of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce proposed the idea of the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM) to celebrate and preserve the influence African Americans have had on music.” Click here for more info about the museum’s history.

At 56,000-square-feet, the facility is at Fifth + Broadway in the heart of Music City. It celebrates over 50 music genres and styles, inspired by African Americans. Galleries include “artifacts, objects, memorabilia, clothing, and state-of-the-art technology” and tells the story of how these artists impacted, and changed, the world through their music.
