Adam Sandler And Friends Celebrate ‘Happy Gilmore’ Anniversary In Glorious Fashion

Listen kids, way before you were putting up memes on the internet in response to posts with Sponge Bob, The Office, or the most current Marvel movie we used to do it basically in real life conversation. It was called “quoting” and we used it in conversation. We quoted famous, and not so famous lines from movies when someone said something that fit the narrative. When someone would say something we didn’t agree with we would yell out “NOT!” or “sheah right and monkeys might fly out of my butt” which were ‘Wayne’s World’ references. If someone asked us to do something we might say “As you wish”, or if they said they “knew something you don’t know” we might respond with “I am not left handed” showing our knowledge of ‘The Princess Bride’. As comedies became more broad and in some cases bordering on implausible even the most innocuous quotes seemed to jump from people’s lips. Adam Sandler movies became the go to in the late 90’s for zany responses on high school and college campuses around the world. Billy Madison started it with people yelling “Call the zoo!” or “YOU BLEW IT!” when the situation called for it. When ‘Happy Gilmore’ came around it went to another level. Saying “the price is wrong b***h” or “Friends listen to ‘Endless Love’ in the dark” became normal responses. When the internet came along those phrases did as well and they morphed into picture memes and eventually into gifs that have made them take on a life of their own. Yesterday was the anniversary of ‘Happy Gilmore’ in theaters and Adam Sandler put out a short video to commemorate it. What was even better was the responses form some of the movie cast. To say it was epic is to put it lightly.
