KQ98 Salute Pete Dawkins

Bauer’s Market and Garden Center with our KQ98 Salute at 7AM with DUKE on the Pledge of Allegiance. Happy Birthday to Pete Dawkins, 83 today. Diagnosed with polio at age 11, used aggressive Physical Therapy to overcome the disease and go on to be a tremendous HS football player in Michigan. Turned down a scholarship to Yale and enrolled at the US Army academy in West Point,NY. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1958 and pursued a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford. When Dawkins came back to the states He went to Infantry and Ranger training with the 82nd Airborne Division. He earned 2 Bronze Starts in Vietnam, and retired from the Army in 1983 as a Brigadier General. He then began a very successful business career. Happy Birthday General Dawkins.
