Country Star Of The Month: Chris Lane
Written by Tony Schultz on July 1, 2021
Chris Lane has been on the Country Music scene since 2012, but there’s a chance he wouldn’t have been. Chris and his twin brother Cory were both athletes in high school and college. After playing football and baseball in high school they went on to play baseball at the collegiate level at the University Of North Carolina at Charlotte. He had dreams of maybe playing in the major leagues. That ended when he suffered an injury that put that possibility out of view. As I’ve seen before, that just put him on a new path: country music. Chris picked up a guitar and learned how to play. He started a cover band and would play at High Point College while working for his father in his landscaping business. Chris and Cory took a shot at fame by auditioning for the 7th season of American Idol, but they didn’t make it to Hollywood. Another moment that might have set him back. It was then that his friend introduced Chris to his uncle, Seth England of Big Loud Mountain and told him he needed to listen to his mix tape.
Chris didn’t start as a solo act. His first foray into music he was the lead of The Chris Lane Band. It wasn’t long before he was just “Chris Lane”. He was opening for such artists as The Band Perry, Brantley Gilbert, Chris Young, The Eli Young Band, and Lee Brice. In 2014 he opened for Florida Georgia Line on their This Is How We Roll tour. Chris was still working on his first hit. It came in 2015 with the release of his single “Fix”. The single off his album Girl Problems took him to number one in the US. He followed that up with “For Her” which reached number 10 in the US. His next release was a collaboration with pop singer Tori Kelly and the song “Take Back Home Girl”. Now Chris was crossing over with that song on both Country Radio and Pop Radio which gave him even more exposure. Chris was looking to get back to number one on the charts and did that two more times. First, he released “I Don’t Know About You” in 2018 that shot up the charts of his album Laps Around The Sun. Most recently he had success in 2019 with the release of “Big, Big Plans” that also reached number one on the Country Charts.
Like all artists the pandemic stopped, or at least slowed down the release of new music so “Big, Big Plans” didn’t have an album attached to it. But now with things getting back to normal he has started to release new music. The song “Fill Them Boots” is a story of the girl treated wrong that the singer would happily fill for a girl that deserves better. He also recently released the song “Ain’t Even Met You Yet” which was a song to his unborn child and the video reflects pregnancy in the world of Covid and social distancing. They are two side of the coin that is Chris Lane and his music. Chris will be bringing his talents to Country Boom this year and you can see him perform on July 10th.
