Country Boom 2021: An Epic Three Days
Written by admin on July 13, 2021
Country Boom 2021 was my first as part of the KQ98 team. I came to the inaugural Boom in 2018 as a spectator, but this year working the event was much different as I got to experience it in so many ways. First and foremost, thank you to the KQ98 listeners! You all showed up by the thousands each day welcoming live music back after a year hiatus and showed that Country Boom is THE event of the summer because without you this wouldn’t be possible.
Thursday night the headliner was Diamond Rio. I grew up listening to them in the 90s (“Meet in the Middle” was my jam) and it was a humbling and thrilling experience to speak with Marty Roe and Dana Williams from the group. A little secret, I may have been a little nervous.
Friday morning came early as I was still coming down from the high of Diamond Rio. Jesse and I teamed up to do the KQ98 morning show live at Boom. After heading home for a brief nap and shower, I returned to Boom reenergized for what was going to be an epic second night and it sure was. Thousands of you packed in for a night of live music from Drew Green, Angie K, Trey Lewis, Travis Denning and the headliner Jake Owen. They all did not disappoint!
A good night’s rest was carried out on Friday night in preparation for the final day of Boom on Saturday which picked right up off the heels of the two previous nights. The live music returned and so did you with a bang. The day was full of performances by Lily Rose, Tyler Booth, Hailey Whitters, Adam Doleac, Ryan Hurd and the headliner Chris Lane. They all hit a home run as Boom came to a close.
Chris Lane had such a good time, he took out his phone and recorded the crowd serenading “I Don’t Know About You” and “Big, Big Plans” which he posted to his Instagram page. How cool is that?
In closing, Country Boom 2021 was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my years of radio or just being a fan of country music and attending live shows. I definitely can’t wait for next year. Thanks for reading and listening.
