Minnesota Forest Fires Grow Again Amidst Drought Conditions

Just this last week my wife and I vacationed up in Lutsen, MN on the North Shore. Gorgeous area surrounded by national and state forests! Now we are not the type to go hiking and camping along the way, but we did enjoy some great hiking for a few days. On our first night there we got word of forest fires to the west of us. Nowhere really near us, but we were concerned about new ones popping up due to the dry conditions and having smoke hanging over us making breathing difficult. We were imagining like it was around here when the Canadian wildfires’ smoke was being pushed into the area. The winds never carried it to where we were. We kept a close eye on the fires as most people have been. Saturday we left the North Shore area the wind had really picked up and a man at the store we stopped at said that his business and the Boundary Water Canoe Area were closing up due to the fires. He also said he was a firefighter which meant he would be going to fight the fires as well. The dry conditions have really made the area a tinderbox and the fires have once again grown and done so quickly. Many homes and cabins are being threatened now and it may be too dangerous for even the fire crews to be there. This news cast from KARE 11 has some video from firefighters evacuating the area because it wasn’t safe for them to stay and continue fighting the blaze.
