KACEY MUSGRAVES. SNL. BOOTS. GUITAR. THAT’S IT.

Kacey Musgraves has always had a bit of an edge to her singing. For a female country artist she skates away from the more “princess” persona and is the tough girl that would shoot whiskey before asking for a mixed drink with a grenadine and Kinky base. Last night was the season premiere of Saturday Night Live and Kacey was the musical guest. Her beautiful lilting voice almost doesn’t fit her style, but she captivates with her songs alone. Last night she had a more stripped down version of herself performing her new song “Justified”. Literally. As guest Owen Wilson introduced her the stage was dark and a light behind her showed the silhouette of Musgraves sitting on a stool holding her guitar. It was a beautiful image. Then as the lights got brighter the audience both at Rockefeller Center and at home noticed her attire or lack there of. She was naked and was only wearing the aforementioned guitar and a pair of boots. Most online posters compared it to Jenny from Forrest Gump and her stage performance in the film where Gump tries to protect her honor. No matter what it was a wonderful performance that seemed to come her very soul. The lack of clothes I would guess was to show ultimate vulnerability to accompany the lyrics about being treated poorly.
