30 YEARS LATER THE HALLOWEEN BLIZZARD IS REVISITED IN REDISCOVERED VIDEO

You were either there or you have grown up learning about it. Especially if you’re from Minnesota: THE HALLOWEEN BLIZZARD OF 1991! Yes, it was one of the scariest Halloweens for some as most of the state was shut down due to this terrible storm that came in. While the Twin Cities and southwest Minnesota were hit the hardest and the most snow fell on the North Shore near Duluth where it totaled 37 inches, and we even had it affect us in the southeast and into Wisconsin. In fact all you have to do is type “Halloween 1991” into Google and it immediately brings up the blizzard. It gave us this iconic photo from Duluth that you see every now and then around this time.
Did kids still trick-or-treat? Heck yeah! The heavy stuff didn’t hit until later. So you can find pictures of kids bundled up to the hilt and can see barely a spec of what their costume was. Unless they went as a downhill skier or a snowmobile racer they were pretty much out of luck showing off that Ultimate Warrior, Super Mario, Barbie, or Cabbage Patch Kids costume. Maybe they could pull off a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume if they had a bulky green snow coat. One kind of cool thing is that Paul Huttner, a meteorologist from Minneapolis found his old tapes of the weather reports and shared them online. The technology and graphics are nothing compared to today’s 3D weathercasts, but the nostalgia and just being in the moment was well captured. You can check them all out at the following website. So take a trip back to the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 and show kids that sometimes you did have to walk up hill both ways through several feet of snow to … not have to go to school.
