MY TOP 10 SUPER BOWL COMMERCIALS
Written by Tony Schultz on February 14, 2022
What a great game yesterday! The Super Bowl was interesting for a few different reasons with the Rams and Bengals being there and the Patriots and Tom Brady not being there. However, as we all know sometimes the most interesting thing to watch is the commercials. Last year I had a hard time whittling it down while this year it was hard to find 10. In my opinion, this was kind of a lackluster year for the commercials which happens every so often. In fact there were none that were beyond epic or super funny, but there were some that simply were pretty good. Usually I don’t count the movie trailers because they are something that comes and goes unlike a product or service, but one makes this year’s list.
#10 – Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. I only put this in here because so many people were excited as to how it connects to the Marvel Universe and there is a cameo voice in it that may finally bring the X-Men and mutants into the fold.
#9 Coinbase Floating QR Code. This one was good because it was unique. You had to pull out your phone and scan it to see what it was for. I was disappointed in the end result, but it was easy and well thought out. Different can be better!
#8 Lay’s Chips with Seth Rogan and Paul Rudd. Silly, and inventive with the different scenarios and singing Shania Twain. Also, Paul Rudd is an American treasure.
#7 Expedia.com with Ewan McGregor. It was the anti-Super Bowl ad in that it looked at former commercials about buying “stuff” instead of experiences.
#6 FTX with Larry David. Taking Larry’s penchant for being negative and applying it to great inventions of nall time was genius and funny!
#5 Rocket Mortgage Barbie Dream house. What started out as Anna Kendricks hocking Barbie getting her perfect home spiraled into the pitfalls of buying a home right now.
#4 Amazon with Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson. If Alexa could read our minds things would be bad at home.
#3 Toyota Keeping Up With The Joneses. Tommy, Leslie, Rashida all speeding around while Tom Jones plays.
#2 Planters Mixed Nuts argument. All together? One at a time? This might become the next “less filling, tastes great” debate. The commentary on social media and people fighting over something so benign was the kicker.
#1 General Motors with Dr Evil. Bringing the gang back together from the Austin Powers movies and incorporating the air bits for a GM going electric was great! I know some liked the Soprano’s commercial better, but the pop culture reference was lost on those that didn’t have HBO.
