WISCONSIN OFFICER’S FALL THROUGH THE ICE CAUGHT ON BODY CAM
Written by Tony Schultz on March 24, 2022
When there is a call for help there is more than just one type of rescue service called out for at times. Time can be of the essence and many hands make short work. Recently in Barron, Wisconsin officers and others were trying to find a snowmobiler that had broken through the ice. As they search they coordinate with other departments and riders to try to find the individual. While they do that one officer finds his own weak spot in the ice and quickly becomes part of his own rescue operation. The video is about 7 minutes long and he doesn’t go in until around the 3:40 mark, but when he does you get to see it almost from his own perspective. The noise of the microphone scraping on the ice makes it sound worse than it might actually be, but it is still a bit frightening to watch. He’s not in long, but I can only imagine the cold shock he got going in. Luckily there were people with him and he wasn’t far from the shore to get warmed up.
