KTTC SPORTS CASTER, PAT LUND PASSES AWAY
Written by admin on April 8, 2022
When it comes to sports we all have our favorite player or coach. Bud Grant, Michael Jordan, Tom Brady, Bill Belichick are all known and revered in their own way. In some instances reporters and announcers become just as iconic. Howard Cosell, John Madden, and Joe Buck have all had broadcasts of glory and cringe worthy moments in their careers that have helped them become just as big as the games and players they reported on. In Southeast Minnesota their was no bigger name for high school athletes and coaches than Pat Lund. Pat was the quintessential sports reporter for high school sports and how to make them as important, if not bigger than the pro sports scene. Every fall, football teams would wait to see their team on the Prep Preview and hear what Pat may have to say about their upcoming season, Volleyball players would wait to see if Pat would comment on their latest highlight spike or diving dig to save a point. From basketball to softball, track, and dance and everything in between he made sure high school sports got the recognition they deserve. No small town was left out, and it was almost a badge or honor if your team’s score didn’t get called in that night and he made sure you knew he was disappointed in that fact. He wanted those scores to make sure your town and team got the recognition you deserved. It was always the talk of the town if your star athlete showed up on the Play Of The Week or if your team made it to the state championships and Pat talked about your success and how well your team played. He was more than a reporter for schools in Southeast Minnesota, he was an advocate. As the sports director I feel he impressed that on those that have taken his place at KTTC as they still make sure the local kids get the coverage earned by entertaining the fans on a weekly basis. Every small town, rural area needs a reporter like Pat was to make sure every kid that has earned it gets the recognition they deserve. Thanks for telling everyone’s stories, Pat.
