FOOTBALL PLAYER GETS CUT OVER DISLIKE OF CHICKEN SALAD

Professional sports can be an odd work environment. First, you are paid to coach or play a sport because you are one of the best at it. Second, the contracts can be canceled at any time for multiple reasons regardless of how good you are or whether the team has to pay you after you’re gone. Over the years new rules have been implemented to protect teams, and to give players more incentive to stay out of trouble when it comes to conduct. In the new USFL that started this spring this is also true. However, it has come under a bit of scrutiny due to a video of a player being cut on their behind the scenes show “United By Football”. Running back for the Pittsburgh Maulers, De’Veon Smith gets cut by the head coach, Kirby Wilson because he didn’t want to eat a team provided meal of a chicken salad sandwich. It is surreal as the coach cuts him and really doesn’t care about the player’s side of the story at all. It is reminiscent of when former head coach, Brad Childress of the Vikings released Hall of Fame wide receiver, Randy Moss after the team had traded to get him back on the team that year and he complained about the catering food they got at an event. Needless to say that was a nail in Chilly’s coffin that year.
