GIVING UP SAFETY FOR “LIKES” GETS COUPLE IN HOT WATER

Social media rules the lives of a lot of people. If they don’t post, share, record, filter, etc. they feel like they have wasted an opportunity. Most of the videos you see on the multiple platforms are harmless and are for entertainment purposes only. The ones that bug me are just people that are just them doing nothing of interest and are just getting likes because they are good looking. No talent and no thought put into those videos. The ones that start to get my blood going is political videos or straight lies whether they relate to an opinion or a terrible “hack” that actually isn’t good or better. This video falls into that category, but it takes it a step further than that by promoting a potential hazard to kids. When we see someone doing a stunt on film there is always the fear that someone, most likely a child will try to copy it and get hurt or worse trying it out. But what about when an adult puts up a video for other adults that might put a child in danger thinking they’re doing something helpful? Recently a Tik Tok video went up where some parents show people how to get their shorter kids on theme park rides by putting lifts on their shoes so their kid can get on them. A little kid that enjoys the rides, but isn’t tall enough yet. Some aren’t concerned about it thinking they are geniuses. The height requirements aren’t for kids feet though, they are for their body to fit in the harnesses properly so they don’t slip out of the ride. Engineers spend a lot of energy figuring this out so that the rides are safe for their intended riders and that they all get off in one piece. If a parent used this hack and their child got thrown from a ride I would guarantee they wouldn’t tell anyone about the hack, and the frenzy and blame over the kid being let on the ride would fall on the operator – most likely a teenager and the park itself. To me it just comes off as the parents being selfish so THEY can ride the ride and not have to miss out when they just need to wait for the kid to grow up a year or two and then they can enjoy it together. If your kid isn’t big enough to get on the rides then maybe you need to wait a year or two to go to the parks. They have their whole lives to go on rides and cheating the system might get them hurt. It’s only a worthwhile hack if you don’t get caught and no one gets hurt. Heaven forbid someone gets hurt doing this, but think of all the people whose lives you would affect from the ride operator to the other guests at the park that witness it to emergency personnel potentially trying to save a child’s life. Of course people online shared their thoughts against the family’s decision and the gentleman responded with an insincere “pity me” video playing the victim and acting like a hero for not taking it down. Folks, if you think you’re sticking it to Disney or anyone else by knowingly disobeying safety rules you might have a hard lesson taught to you and your kid. By the way, I’m not sharing the video here because it doesn’t need any more attention than it’s already gotten. Feel free to comment.
