REAL LIFE DUKES OF HAZZARD JUMP DOESN’T GO WELL

It should go without saying that you can’t believe everything you see on TV. Growing up I believed that a car could jump over just about and ditch, creek, river, or other cars and not get a scratch on it. The suspension would never blow out nor would the tires or the frame of body bend. When you’re a kid enamored with “The Dukes of Hazzard” and the exploits of the Duke family and the happenings in Hazzard county you tend to believe the right car can do anything. From the very start of the opening credits and theme song you see those good ol’ boys jump off a dirt pile and it was a theme throughout the episodes and years of the show’s run. The only time I’ve seen a similar recreation was in the movie Smoky and The Bandit and later in Gone In 60 Seconds. In real life though the outcome is much different as witnessed recently in Georgia no less. An officer’s body camera at a traffic accident caught another car come down the road and jump off the tow truck’s ramp ala Bo and Luke style. The outcome was not good though as they landed on another car and injured a person and another deputy. Whether they were being an inattentive driver or thought this was something they should try is in question. It was bad, but could have been much worse.
