HIGH SCHOOL TRACK MEET IN WINONA FINISHES RACE BY CELL PHONE LIGHT
Written by Tony Schultz on May 10, 2024
This is the time of year when we worry the most about power outages. Storms with high winds and lightning are the main causes. We hope that there’s enough charge in our cell phones and tablets to get us through the time and everyone leaves the fridge ans freezer closed. When a power outage happens when we’re out and about we need to be more aware of non-functioning stoplights and street lights that usually light our way. Imagine being in the middle of a high school track meet and the lights go out. That’s what happened in Winona last night as the lights at Paul Giel field all turned off in the middle of the relay race. You have to wonder what the runners were thinking and how well they could see anything even with a sliver of ambient light coming from the surrounding neighborhood. Then, something cool happened everyone grabbed their cellphones and turned on their flashlights to illuminate the track! The runners didn’t even seem to stop running from the look of it and they finished the last lap. There’s the video below and another angle here from the Rochester Post Bulletin.
