FLOODING NEAR MANKATO MINNESOTA CAUSES DAM TO FAIL
Written by Tony Schultz on June 25, 2024
Right now around us we are all concerned about the high water from the Mississippi and surrounding rivers. For me, I see the Root River in Houston and Hokah on a daily basis. It is high and has flooded nearby fields, but it seems to be receding a bit. Unfortunately around the tri-states there are folks worse off than some of us. All three states are dealing with it in some capacity. Imagine if something that was holding that water back suddenly failed. There’s not much you can do. The Rapidan Dam near Mankato got so jammed with debris that the water worked its way around it and washed out one side of it. The dam has now failed and homes along the water’s path could be lost. As you can see the house near the dam is already hanging over the edge of the washout and the family is worried that it could also take out their business.
