IS “AGATHA ALL ALONG” ANOTHER BAD GUY TURNS GOOD OR A BRIDGE TO A REVAMPED UNIVERSE?

As I write this the final episodes haven’t been released on Disney+ yet. To cut down on people on the East Coast spoiling it for those on the West Coast that haven’t gotten off work Disney is holding the episodes. It makes sense. Agatha All Along has many twists and turns and could have a huge reveal at the end of it that could shape the direction of the Marvel Universe. I hope it isn’t too much because the connection of the movies to the TV shows has made it difficult for some to follow along. This could also be a way for the brains at Marvel Studios to crack open another door that leads to the paranormal side of the universe and give us new stories that stick to just the streaming service. I’ll let you know that if you haven’t watched the TV series Wandavision or the movie Dr Strange In the Multiverse of Madness you will be lost. Are they worth it? Very! Before Marvel stretched themselves too thin things were going very well and Wandavision was a very cool concept with great storytelling. Once you get caught up you can binge Agatha.

Agatha All Along takes us back to Westview and Eastview where Wandavision takes place. We find the evil witch, Agatha played by Kathryn Hahn still living an imaginary existence without any powers that were taken from her by Avenger, Wanda Maximoff. Once freed from the delusion she’s been placed into she decides that being a powerless witch doesn’t suit her. She needs to walk the Witch’s Road to regain her powers. However, she can’t do it alone and needs a new coven of witches to accomplish her task. She gathers a group of witches together which includes played by a slew of great actresses with different sets of powers. Sasheer Zamata, Patti Lupone, Ali Ahn, Debra Jo Rupp, and Aubrey Plaza make up her coven that has to survive a set of “trials” in order to defeat The Road and gain Agatha’s powers back. In their group is also a mystery teenager that is spellbound from telling them his name. What role does he play in their quest and why exactly is he there?

Agatha All Along is similar to the other shows on Disney+ in that it bases itself a bit on sitcoms of the past and those currently on air. It is a mix of humor but has very deep emotional moments that catch you a bit off guard. None of the characters are being very honest with the group so when certain things are revealed it takes a second to absorb it. The show starts off a little slow, but it’s that way to setup for the crazy about to take over your screen. Each trial is set in a different era and pushes one in the party to figure out how to escape with their lives. Kathryn Hahn is awesome and chews up the scenes with her wicked ways and how she manipulates the others. Sasheer Zamata was great when she was on Saturday Night Live, but here she shines in her role and is so strong and believable in her strength and her vulnerability. The scenery is spooky, and at times cheesy, but that’s kind of what you want with this premise. Once the group starts down The Witches Road things really pick up and you become invested in their adventures where no one is safe from meeting their demise. This show is fun, humorous, keeps you guessing, and at times ups the tension to a stressful level. Get it on your list if you’ve already seen the previous shows or get caught up and enjoy the continuation of this story.
