Backseat Drivers Will Soon Be Required to Wear Seatbelts, too
Written by Bill Dollar on December 18, 2024
Many of those sitting in the second or third seat of a vehicle do not wear seatbelts. So starting in September 2027, all new passenger vehicles in the U.S. will have to sound a warning if rear-seat passengers don’t buckle up. Front seatbelts will also have enhanced warnings. The new rule will save 50 lives per year and prevent 500 injuries when fully in effect.
